Ceramic Sculpture: The Animal Figure (Nov 5 - Dec 19) FALL#2 – 2026

In this six-week class, students will explore ceramic sculpture through the animal form, focusing on building expressive, dimensional work using handbuilding techniques. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on studio time, participants will learn methods for constructing armatures, developing volume and proportion, and refining surface details to bring animal forms to life.

As the class progresses, students will explore surface treatments and finishing techniques, including both traditional glazing and alternative finishing methods such as cold finishes, allowing for expanded creative expression beyond the kiln. Instruction will also address planning for drying and firing sculptural work, as well as strategies for stability and durability.

This class is designed for all skill levels, welcoming beginners interested in sculptural clay as well as more experienced students looking to deepen their figurative practice. By the end of the session, students will leave with one or more finished sculptural pieces and a broader understanding of ceramic sculpture and finishing options.
