Instructor Bio:
I am a ceramic artist originally from Seoul, South Korea, where I earned my Bachelor of Ceramic Arts from Ewha Womans University in 2000. After moving to Australia in 2005, I rediscovered ceramics and went on to complete a Diploma of Ceramics at Holmesglen TAFE in Melbourne in 2013.
My work bridges fine art and technical craftsmanship, with a strong focus on form, glazing, and firing processes. I’m particularly drawn to cubic forms, which allow me to express emotions and capture personal memories. My "Urban Series" simplifies cityscapes into rectangular prisms inspired by Melbourne’s skyline at dusk.
Over the years, I’ve exhibited widely, won several awards—including first prize at the Stonehouse Gallery Ceramic Awards—and served as a gallery partner until its closure in 2023. I’ve also created large-scale installation work and have taught ceramics to children, adults, and individuals with special needs for over eight years.
I’m passionate about sculptural ceramics and committed to sharing this art form with others, encouraging students to explore both its technical and expressive potential.
