This 6-week class introduces the core techniques of handbuilding with clay, making it perfect for absolute beginners or those returning to clay after some time away. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn how to construct both functional and decorative ceramic forms using simple tools and your own hands.

We’ll cover:

  • Working with clay from start to finish
  • Pinch, coil, and slab-building methods
  • How to score, slip, and join pieces with strength
  • Shaping, refining, and adding surface texture
  • Basic drying and firing considerations
  • Glazing and finishing techniques

Students will create several personalized projects throughout the course, such as cups, planters, trays, vases, and small sculptural pieces — with room to explore your own ideas.

This class emphasizes learning through making, developing comfort with the material, and working at your own pace in a warm, community-centered studio.

All materials, tools, and firings are included.
